An Abbeyleix man who is attemping to become the first Irish man to visit every country in the world has entertained the Afghan locals with a novel rendition of Christy Moore’s Ride On.
Gary O’Keeffe is currently traveling the globe in a 4X4 in an effort to be the first Irish man to visit all the countries in the world.
His travels took him to Afghanistan recently where he performed a song by the famous Newbridge singer/songwriter.
And while the local youths appear to be somewhat bemused by the famous Irish song, they soon join in enthusiastically as Gary encourages them to clap along.
The lyrics to the song are even improvised to take in the location and moment.
The footage was taken on the Pamir Highway, a road traversing the Pamir Mountains, through Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Krygystan in Central Asia.

“Who would have thought that Christy Moore was so big in Afghanistan,” Gary posted on his Facebook page.
