A person is due to appear in Portlaoise District Court this morning in connection with a burglary at the church in Mountmellick.
The incident took place last week where the church in the centre of the town was broken into.
The person has been charged with burglary at St Joseph’s Church by the Gardai.
Separately, Gardaí have launched a campaign to encourage safe online shopping ahead of two of the busiest days of the year.
Black Friday is coming up this week while Cyber Monday will take place this day next week.
The Gardaí have teamed up with the Banking & Payments Federation of Ireland and Retail Excellence for the movement.
