Portlaoise Lions Club has launched a novel new food voucher scheme which aims to help over 100 needy local families this Christmas.
Each Christmas Portlaoise Lions Club provides food vouchers to deserving families in the general Laois area.
The charity screens families to ensure that its support is directed to those most in need, particularly those with young children.
“This year we are planning an expansion of this worthwhile project and are asking local companies to support us with sponsorship,” explained Lions member PJ O’Gorman.
“Your sponsorship will support a very deserving cause and in return we provide you with Christmas gift cards acknowledging your sponsorship on your customers behalf,” he said.
Food vouchers will then be provided to over 100 deserving families in Portlaoise, Mountmellick, Mountrath, Stradbally and surrounding hinterlands.
The Lions Club say switching from the traditional type gifts to sponsorship of the Lions Club Food Voucher Scheme would not necessarily increase a company’s spend on Christmas gifts for customers.
Value
“We believe customers will value this gift from you on their behalf,” Mr O’Gorman said.
“We are asking people to divert their funds, not to increase their spend,” he explained.
As the Lions Club is a registered charity, any donation above €250 enjoy tax benefits under the Revenues Charitable Donations Scheme.
The local Lions club is inviting support for their effort, with any level of conation.
