We’re beginning to get into Dinner Dance season now.
With the GAA season winding down on the pitch, it’s time fpr clubs to decide what they’re doing off the field.
Even though the games might stop, the GAA keeps going with fundraisers, social nights, meetings, development work on the facilities and any amount of other activities.
A Dinner Dance is usually one of the off-field highlights, especially if a club has won a championship.
But even if they hadn’t it’s a time for club members to gather in a different setting. While there mightn’t be any matches on, you can be sure a lot of talk is still about games played, next year, vacant management positions and who should be playing where.
The Dinner Dances of clubs celebrating county final successes are always joyous occasions but clubs have plenty of other reasons to gather, like honouring a former team or marking a significant occasion in the club’s history.
In the case of Courtwood GAA, they celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2002, having been established in 1962.
Their Dinner Dance to celebrate that occasion took place in early 2003 and photographer Alf Harvey was on hand to capture some great images.
Over 14 years have passed since these photos were taken but no doubt our readers will recognised many of the faces.
