The death has occurred of Anne (Nancy) Moloney in Mountmellick, mother of former Laois Fianna Fail TD and Junior Minister John Moloney.
The Moloney family have run The Gaelic Bar in the town for over 100 years (since March 1916) and Nancy, who was aged in her 90s, was extremely well-known in the area.
Her own family owned the Harbour Bar in the town, one that is still run to this day by her brother Eamon Lalor.
Nancy’s son John was a Laois-Offaly TD from 1997 to 2011 and served as a Minister of State at the Department of Health with special responsibility for Disability Issues and Mental Health.
Her other son Michael also served one term as a county councillor.
Nancy is pre-deceased by her husband Michael and survived by her sons John and Michael and daughters Maura who lives and Helen, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Nancy is reposing in Moloney’s Funeral Home on Monday from 4pm until removal at 7.50pm to St. Joseph’s Church arriving at 8pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday at 12 noon. Burial after in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
