It’s all steam ahead for Downtown Portlaoise over the coming weeks as they prepare for Christmas with the help of the local community.
A big crowd gathered in Kavanagh’s Bar in Portlaoise on Thursday night for a Table Quiz, a key part of their Christmas Lights fundraising.
Chairman of Downtown Portlaoise Matthew Kennelly says it is a big project organizing the lights every year.
“We would be lost without three people in particular,” he says. “The Council, Laois Hire, and Shaws Department Store. They always go through big lengths to help out every year”.
Another key part of the Downtown Portlaoise’s festive season is the Christmas market which will be taking place on Sunday, November 26, all throughout Main Street, with almost 50 stalls expected to be in place for the day.
The Christmas lights will be switched on at 4.30 pm on the day of the Christmas Market with Santa on hand to the official duties alongside one lucky child who will be picked from the crowd.
