Portlaoise Parish has bought the house of the late Dr Hugh Maguire on Dublin Road, which will become one of the priests houses.
The house which adjoins the Parish Centre, was purchased for €330,000.
The legal work in relation to the sale will be concluded in the near future.
The contents of the house were recently put up for auction in Portlaoise Parish Centre.
In the meantime, the Old Parochial House and grounds, containing two priest’s house, continues to be marketed and it is hoped that in time this property will be sold.
Highly-regarded
Dr Hugh Maguire (85) was a highly-regarded Portlaoise GP who passed away on July 15.
The late Dr Maguire was a GP in Portlaoise for over forty years, having moved to the town to take up his first post as a Family doctor.
He was known to have a fantastic bedside manner and he made many loyal friends through his work.
Outside of his work he had many interests and played golf at the Heath Golf Club.
