Having gone live earlier this year and having established a massive local following, LaoisToday will be officially launched at a celebration party next Friday, November 10, in the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise.
The event will also mark the unveiling of LaoisToday apps for iOS and Android devices as well as the launch of the 2017 LaoisToday annual – a high-quality 160-page publication.
LaoisToday is Laois’s newest media outlet and is the only locally-owned one in the county. It has quickly established itself as a go-to destination for local news, sport and information in the nine months since going live.
As well as attracting thousands of visitors on a daily basis, it also has a significant presence across all social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube.
The launch aims to be a celebration of all things Laois with a fun-filled night of discussion and music, hosted by the award-winning radio presenter Anne Marie Kelly from Midlands 103.
There will also be a number of local food and drink producers present on the night with samples – including Ballykilcavan Brewery, 12 Acres Brewery, Brennan’s Old House Gin and Kelly Lou Cakes.
“We have enjoyed a roller-coaster of a year,” says Steven Miller, owner and managing editor of LaoisToday, “and we’ve received an incredible response for what we’re doing – from Laois people all over the world.
“We have a great team of people with us, supported by a range of columnists around the county. The launch is a chance for us to acknowledge the people that have helped us along the way.
“We’re also very proud to be unveiling apps for all devices, something which will mark us out as unique in the local market.
“We try to keep all our business in Laois – the websites and apps have been designed by Eamon Donovan from Portlaoise and his team in Modus; the graphic design is done by Mike McCarthy from Creactive Studios in Mountmellick; the hosting is done by Craigue Hyland from Webcore Cloud in Portlaoise; our printing is done by Pat Keenan and Quality Printers in Portlaoise; and all our merchandise is from Darren Strong and DS Sports in Emo.
“We are very grateful to all the advertisers who have come on board since we started and we look forward to welcoming more in the coming years.
“We also want to thank our readers for their well wishes and feedback and to all the various organisations, community groups and sports clubs for welcoming us with open arms to their events.
“Laois, as a county, has a lot to be proud of and we aim to be reflective of that.
“The 2017 LaoisToday annual – which retails at €20 and will make for an ideal Christmas stocking filler – has been carefully crafted by Mike McCarthy and is something we’re very happy with too. We feel it’s a good reflection of the site since we started and it lives up to our aim of being Quality, Lively and Fun in all we do.”
