Difficult driving conditions in Laois as fire service clears fallen trees

The latest fallen tree which was cleared this morning

Caution has been urged on roads around the county as Laois Fire and Rescue Service clear fallen trees.

They warn of substantial surface water on roads across Laois.

Motorists have been advised to take extra care when making journeys.

Concern was expressed earlier this week about the effect Storm Brian would have, following the damage caused by Ex Hurricane Ophelia on Monday.

Many predicted that trees weakened earlier in the week would be vulnerable to gusts during Storm Brian.

Laois Fire & Rescue Service is enduring more challenging conditions this weekend, as they work to provide assistance for people across the county.

Safety

A major safety operation swung into operation early on Monday morning as a code red warning was issued across the country.

Over 100 council staff and retained fire fighters were on duty to help across the county on Monday morning.
