There has been what Gardaí are calling a ‘substantial’ drugs and firearms seizure overnight.
They say that the combined estimated value of the find is in excess of €1 million.
Cocaine, amphetamine and cocaine herb were among the drugs recovered in Geashill.
A firearm was also recovered at the scene and a 34-year-old male was arrested.
A shotgun (sawn-off) and large numbers of cartridges and rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
In an unrelated matter, Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a building contractor was assaulted by a group of people.
It is understood that the builder was carrying out work on behalf of the council at the time.
Gardai say he was assaulted by 3 or 4 people in O’Moore Place in Portlaoise on Tuesday.
