Italian fans to visit Portlaoise for Mary Coughlan gig

Mary Coughlan

A group of Italian fans of Mary Coughlan will pay a visit to Portlaoise shortly when the blues singer Mary Coughlan performs at the Dunamaise Theatre.

“I am looking forward to the gig. We always have great craic in Portlaoise,” the singer said.

When LaoisToday spoke to her recently, she was glad to be distracted from the job of clearing out her hot press. How very rock n’ roll!

She did not speak fondly of the job…

She confirmed that the group of Italian fans chose Portlaoise – pencilled in for Thursday, October 26 – to see her perform in Ireland.

She explained that she had a promoter in Italy and performed there regularly, resulting in fans keeping an interest in her work.

They will fly to Ireland from Milan especially for the gig in Portlaoise.

Don’t miss Mary’s new show Live & Kicking featuring all the songs that are close to her heart and life.

The renowned singer has recovered from a bout of serious ill-health and is delighted to be back on the road. “This time last year I wasn’t even able to walk,” she said.

She was diagnosed with heart failure but says her strong lungs played a part in her survival.

Recovery

Following her recovery, she played a gig in Vicar Street and recently she embarked on a tour of Ireland, taking in Portlaoise

“It has been really, really great,” she said.

“I think the last time I played the Dunamase Theatre they still had the remainder of the Christmas lights up.

Mary has now recorded 14 albums, and she and her band will pretty much play any song .requested.

“People can shout out for any particular song they want to hear. We will perform what people want and I also do some of the songs I like,” she said.

The legendary singer said they stick to songs from her CDs though. She admits she doesn’t know Lovely Laois, so don’t request it.

Tickets are priced €22.50/€20 and on sale from the Box Office,, Tel: 057 8663355 or online at www.dunamaise.ie . Show starts at 8pm.
