Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a building contractor was assaulted by a group of people.
It is understood that the builder was carrying out work on behalf of the council at the time.
Gardai say he was assaulted by 3 or 4 people in O’Moore Place in Portlaoise on Tuesday.
They are describing the incident as an attempted tool theft.
The victim has suffered head and wrist injuries as a result of the attack.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
