In Pictures: The scale of Storm Ophelia damage across Laois

Homes across Laois will be left to count the cost of Ex-Hurricane Ophelia which has been battering the region for a number of hours.

ESB are advising people who have been hit by a power outage that they may be without power for “a number of days”.

On Monday evening the scale of disruption being caused was outlined by the Laois Crisis Management team.

There are currently 93 reported incidences, with 34 roads blocked in Co. Laois and fallen trees have been reported multiple locations.

“Portarlington Fire Services has responded to a road traffic collision at Monasterevin where a tree has fallen on a car, one person has been removed to Portlaoise General Hospital,” a statement outlined.

Serious

There were a number of serious local incidents including a tree falling on a car at Maryborough Village. No one was injured in this incident.

Power Outages have been reported at Abbeyleix, Mountmellick, Clonaslee, Cullohill, Kilcavan, Killenard.
