A mass of orange balloons took over the basketball courts in Clonaslee VS for Mental Health Week on Friday last.
Students were encouraged to write down their worries, put them into the balloon and let them go.
The students also gave €2 towards Pieta House for each balloon.
Emma Scully is a teacher in Clonaslee VS. She explained the idea behind the initiative.
“Three or four years ago the school received the Amber Flag for promoting positive mental health. Since then, we do things every year to promote positive mental health, the Release of the Balloons being one of them,” she said.
“Our previous religion teacher Pamela Cummins helped the school receive their Amber Flag and the Release of the Balloons is the brainchild of our new religion teacher, Tracey McLoughlin,” she added.
Brilliant repsonse
Ms Scully added that there was a great response from the students, with many students putting in worries their friends might have, as well as their own.
Clonaslee VS also hold ‘Smile Week’ every year to promote mental wellness.
