Gardaí are appealing for information after two robberies were carried out overnight.
Both of the burglaries occurred in Cluanin Estate in the town.
Gardaí say that tools were taken in one of the robberies but nothing was taken in the other.
The robberies happened just a week after it was announced that there will be 15 new Gardai working in Laois by the end of the year.
The Laois Joint Police Committee heard how 15 extra guards will be appointed to the division by November at a recent meeting.
while they will be split between Tullamore and Portlaoise originally, there will be that number extra in Laois by the end of year.
No arrests have been made in either case and anyone with information are asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100.
