Abbeyleix have retained their gold medal in the Tidy Towns competition, it has been announced at the national awards ceremony in Dublin.
“Super result and well done to Abbeyleix Tidy Towns for a mammoth effort again this year,” posted the Abbeyleix community page on Facebook.
A delegation from the local Tidy Towns group are at the presentation with local Councillor John Joe Fennelly unable to make this month’s Laois County Council meeting because of it.
It’s more recognition of the great work donw by that group following on from their success in the prestigious Entente Florale.
There was also awards for Castletown and Ballacolla who took bronze in their category and to Portlaoise who were honoured with silver.
The overall winner of Ireland’s tidiest village was Birdhill in Tipperary.
