Culture Night Laois is taking place tonight, Friday 22 September. There’s a huge number of free events taking place around the county to celebrate culture in Laois.
Camross
Camross Comhaltas have a Seisiún Oíche Chultúir with two sessions of music, song, dance and storytelling in the beautiful setting of the Poet’s Cottage, Camross starting at 8pm -9.15pm and 9.30pm-11pm.
Mountmellick
Mountmellick Library will host, ‘The Secrets of Painting a Landscape in Oils’, by Artist Tom Joyce from 7pm to 9pm. The library is also hosting a reading by Laois Writer Sheelagh Coyle at 4.30pm.
Portlaoise
Anam – Siamsa Tire, a percussive dance show featuring world class performers, will be performing at the Dunamaise Arts Centre at 8pm.
Samba Drum Performance will be presented by Music Generation Laois at the Plaza, County Hall, Portlaoise starting at 5pm. It will be led by Peter Crann with a visiting Samba Band ‘Itchy Feet Drummers’ from Sligo.
Equinox: Live Art will showcase live art including dance, painting, poetry and much more, taking place upstairs in Kavanagh’s, Portlaoise at 9pm. This is an over 18s event.
Bennie Reilly’s New Works exhibition will be on display in the Dunamaise Arts Centre Gallery at 7pm.
‘Exploring Cultural Connections – Through Music, Dance, Conversations, Displays’ can be seen at the Portlaoise Parish Centre from 6pm to 8pm.
Storytelling at Portlaoise Library with Jack Lynch is on from 11am to 12pm.
Ballyfin
There is a traditional Irish Evening at An Sean Chistin, in Irey, Ballyfin at 8pm. Ballyfin will also be home to an Open Artists Studio event by Artist Kevin Mc Cann at Glory, Old Deer Park, Ballyfin, from 5pm to 11pm.
Durrow
There will be a Reading and Crafting evening with author Helena Duggan in Durrow Library from 7pm.
Emo Court
Emo Court will open for two free guided tours starting at 6pm and 7pm.
Mountrath
Paddy and Hannah Flynn of Roundwood House, Mountrath, will open their doors at 5pm for a tour of one of Ireland’s finest Georgian country houses, booking is required. To book phone 057 8732120.
Figure2Ground studios will host an Artists Open Studio event in Murrays, Left Bank House, which will explore different aspects of digital art from 5pm to 10pm.
Portarlington
‘The Fight for Colour and Wonder’ opening of an exhibition by Melissa Donagher at The French Restaurant in the French Quarter Portarlington at 7pm.
Portarlington Comhaltas will perform in the Hawthorn Function Room, Portarlington at 8pm.
Spink
Spink Comhaltas will hold an evening of traditional music in Spink Community Hall at 7:30pm.
Rathdowney
Rathdowney Men’s Shed will showcase music, dance, story-telling and a display of the Men’s Shed woodcraft work from 7pm.
