Saturday started well, sunshine in the morning as the bunting was being put up.

Vicarstown was looking it’s best, with grass cut and the canal area looking magnificent.

By 1pm the clouds had gathered, but it did not deter the 80 kids who enjoyed an afternoon of Kayaking, Pedal Boating and Paddle Boarding.

While there was a little disappointment that the Zorba Balls were not present, the arrival of the Dragon Boat from Athy more than made up for it.

The formation of the new SVT Canoe and Kayak Club could not be better timed – there is big interest in water based activities in Vicarstown and surrounding areas

The 6th annual Beat the Barge Fun Run took place at 6pm, and while the numbers were down slightly on last year, the quality was very evident.

Almost 200 lined up at the start, and first home was Brian Kirwan of Carlows St Laurence O’Tooles Club.

First Lady was Lisa Sweeny of St. Michaels Portarlington.

First Vicarstown finisher was Cathal Connaughton, 5th overall in the race.
