More than 1,000 Laois students will receive their Junior Certificate results at schools across the county today.
Figures sent out by the State Examinations Commission reveal that 1,006 sat the exams last June.
This is the first year that the new Framework for Junior Cycle has been examined, in one subject only, English.
Both the assessment and grading systems for the subject have changed as a result.
There are no longer A, B or C grades in English, with students instead receiving one of six “grade descriptors”, such as a Distinction, Merit, or an Achieved.
Marks are awarded not just for the exam completed in June, but also for assessments that took place in class during the school year.
Nationally, only four students have received top grades in 12 higher-level subjects, compared to 10 a year ago.
The results will be available from schools over the course of the day and online at examinations.ie from 4pm.
And we will be out and about throughout the day to get the best of the reaction.
