Laois band Pogueology have been rescheduled to appear in the Salty Dog section of Electric Picnic on Sunday night following the bizarre abandonment of their Friday night gig due to the floor collapsing in Jimmy Lee’s Juke Joint.
Nobody was injured during the incident but onlookers said it was lucky it wasn’t a lot worse. The popular Laois seven-piece group – who are fronted by Brian O’Mahony – have been handed an 11pm slot on Sunday in the hugely popular Salty Dog area.
The band posted a simple message on their Facebook page: “Just announced: Pogueology at Salty Dog Electric Picnic on Sunday night at 11pm. Please spread the word.”
The Portlaoise-based tribute band to the Pogues performed at midnight on Friday but only got through a handful of songs before the wooden floor caved in.
With a massive crowd in attendence – many of them from the Laois area – Gardai arrived at the scened and ordered the concert to be called off.
“A very scary moment for the people involved as at the time the place was packed,” said one person who was there at the time and got in touch with LaoisToday.
“People moved quickly to evacuate but some were not as quick to move and the Gardai had to cancel the gig and ask people to leave the area ASAP.
“Nobody was injured that I know of but a very scary situation. I was on the floor myself when it happened.”
Pogueology, who are regulars on entertainment scene in Portlaoise, played at the Trinity Ball in Dublin earlier this year.
