In Pictures: The sun sets on Day 1 of Electric Picnic

Day 1 is done and dusted. And another great day for the Electric Picnic memory book.

Among the highlights on Day 1 were Jenny Greene and the RTE Concert Orchestra with DJ Mo K, Hudson Taylor, London Grammar and The XX. From a local perspective, Portlaoise-based band Pogueology

The LaoisToday team were on the festival site good and early as concert goers arrived in their thousands from around the country.

We met many locals in for the first day of what is the 14th Electric Picnic in Stradbally Hall.

Among those we came across were Orla Hyland from Courtwood, Greg Ramsbottom from Stradbally, Andrew Deegan from Vicarstown, Dan Keane from The Heath, Brian and Majella Dempsey from Mountmellick and Scoil Chriost Ri teachers Helen Finlay and Madeleine Hearn.

Joe Deegan, a veteran Electric Picnic-goer from Stradbally, and a candidate for the best-dressed at the festival was another to glady pose for our photographer.

We also met a lively bunch of revellers from Wolfhill and a crew of Portarlington footballers, who are convinced Port are going to win the Laois senior football championship for the first time since 2001.

And we bumped into some of the younger Stradbally lads and a selection of Mountrath men in fine fettle too.

We also came across some of our own LaoisToday columnists, Fr Paddy Byrne and John Whelan, and Carlow man Ollie Jennings, the former manager of the Saw Doctors band.

You can watch back our tour of the site as darkness descended on Day 1.

We’ll be back on Day 2 for more fun and frolics.

Make sure to say hello!
