The sounds and stories of John Spillane and Jimmy Crowley filled the Donaghmore Workhouse Museum on Thursday 24 August.

The two living legends of Irish folk music played to an audience of over 160 people in the Dining Hall of the Workhouse.

Jimmy Crowley has collaborated with some of Ireland’s best loved musicians including Christy Moore, Donal Lunny and Declan Sinnott.

He has produced critically acclaimed live & studio albums, showing his diverse range of musical skills, from stylish songwriter to swing-jazz crooner.

John Spillane is a musician, songwriter, storyteller and poet who performed his own piece, ‘One hundred Snow White Horses’, a song dedicated to Laois.

Director of the Dunamaise Arts Centre Michelle de Forge said the night was a tremendous success.

“It was a very special atmosphere there. It was a great use of space and there was plenty of banter and stories between songs. Hopefully there will be many more events in Donaghmore Workhouse museum!” said Michelle.

The evening was presented in association with the Legends Vintage Cycling Club.
