A host of events are due to be held in Laois during Heritage Week with some ever popular events returning again this year.
In what has almost become an annual tradition during Heritage Week, Michael Parsons will lead a tour of Portlaoise on Sunday 20th from 3 to 4.30 pm.
Everyone is urged to come along and learn the fascinating history of the county town.
Anne M. O’Byrne, librarian at the Rotunda Hospital,will give a powerpoint presentation on the life and times of one of Portlaoise’s most distinguished people: Bartholomew Mosse on Tuesday, August 22 at 8pm in the Midlands Park Hotel (formerly the Heritage Hotel).
The cost is €5 for non-members.
Also there is another talk on the 30th Aug. by Michael J Conroy (retired from Teagasc) on The Rabbit Industry in Ireland in the 20th century in the same venue at 8pm.
Laois Heritage Week begins today, Saturday, August 19, with a massive schedule of events all around the county.
The vast majority of these are aimed at families – and not only are they easily accessible, the majority of them are also free.
A whole host of events are taking place around the county, from Pollinator Parties to Family Fund Days on the Bog to World War 1 re-enactments.

Whether you would like a free tour or Emo House or enjoy a rare opportunity to visit Abbey Leix Estate, there is much to look forward to.
There are events to interest all the family and also the serious history buff.
