A Laois student has received the top Leaving Cert results in Cistercian College Roscrea.
Finbarr Crowley from Emo, who also got the highest Junior Cert results in the school three years ago, was the highest achiever in the Offaly boarding school. Finbarr is the eldest son of Martin and Louise and is planning on going to UCD to study engineering after receiving 567 points.
A talented young man, he was on the Laois minor football team that reached last year’s Leinster final and also played in the 2016 Leinster Schools Rugby Senior Cup final.
Crowley, whose younger brother Liam is also a student in the school, is currently playing with the Emo football team.
In total over 30% got over 518 points in Cistercian Roscrea with almost 50% getting 419 points or higher.
Cistercian Roscrea, whose principal is Portlaoise resident Gerry Grealish, will re-open at the end of August when it will be taking in five-day boarders and day boarders too for the first time.
Previously all the students were seven-day boarding but the options have changed since a campaign to keep the school open was successful earlier this year. One of the driving forces behind that campaign was Laois man Ronnie Culliton.
