98 boys and girls took in Laois’s first ever Junior parkrun on Sunday 30 in Vicarstown .
They ran, sprinted and jogged the 2km stretch along the banks of the Grand Canal in Vicarstown.
The event, for four to 14 year olds, was opened by new Newly elected County Council Chairman Pairic Fleming and by local councillor Tom Mulhall.
As event director James McGovern blew his whistle – a colourful band of youngsters took off.
First across the finish line were local lad Oisin Jago in the Boys, and Ballyroan’s Niamh McDonald in the Girls.
Junior parkrun is the follow-on from the adult parkrun phenomenon and takes place on Sundays at 11am in Vicarstown.
