Slieve Bloom GAA Club suffered from careless vandalism over the past weekend.
The dugouts, stone walls and advertising signs were vandalised with graffiti sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
When contacted by LaoisToday, Club Chairman Joe Heffernan described the vandalism as being the work of “reckless, mindless idiots”.
Call for vigilance
In a post on the club’s Facebook page, Slieve Bloom GAA said: “We are small rural GAA club who work so hard to keep our facilities looking well and to have such an amenity for the local community.
“Hours of volunteering and fundraising goes into the up keep and development of the field along with sponsors kindly supporting us with advertising signage.
“These signs were defaced, along with the dug outs and stone wall.
“We ask the community and our neighbours to be vigilant going forward and if anyone notices any suspicious activity in the field please let us know, thank you.”
Councillor James Kelly was one of the many people who commented on the post.
He said: “Once again a few mindless thugs try and destroy it for everyone else. Rise above it and continue the good work.”
Slieve Bloom GAA are hoping to call a meeting to discuss the vandalism soon.
