Laois journalist Claire Byrne has given birth to a baby daughter, it has been announced.
“Claire Byrne and Gerry Scollan are delighted to announce the arrival of their new baby daughter Emma who was born last Wednesday the 12th July in Holles Street Hospital,” a statement confirmed.
“Mother and baby are doing well,” it added.
Byrne is the daughter of Tom and Breda Byrne. She grew up on the family farm and was educated locally at the Brigidine Convent. She attended Rathmines College of Further Education where she studied journalism.
The new baby girl is a welcome addition to the family which includes big brother Patrick and big sister Jane.
Ms Byrne is a high-profile presenter and journalist with RTE, with her own show, Claire Byrne Live.
She has enjoyed a successful and varied career which has seen her work for BBC Radio, TV3, Newstalk and RTE.
In early 2013, Byrne joined the current affairs programme Prime Time as an anchor with Miriam O’Callaghan and Pat Kenny.
Her own current affairs show began in January, 2015.
