A County Councillors fears that cars travelling on the Kilmullen road in Portarlington could end up in people’s front gardens if the speed limit isn’t reduced.
Speaking at a recent Municipal meeting, Cllr Tom Mulhall said the road was like an ‘S-hook’ and called on the council to erect 60km/ph speed limit signs in the area.
He said: “With so many twists and turns in it, there’s real fears that cars will end up in someone’s front garden there.
“God forbid if there’s a head-on crash with oncoming vehicles.”
Sinn Fein Cllr Aidan Mullins echoed Mulhall’s call.
He said: “There are a lot of S turns on it. One New Year’s Eve, they took a car out of the front garden which had ended up just a few yards from the front door of a house.”
Engineer Farhan Nasiem said that the Council would investigate the matter.
He said: “This location has been reviewed under the speed limit review and will be discussed with the elected members.”
