The death has occurred of well-known Laois businessman Liam Murphy.
Liam, who lived in The Heath, owned shops in Ballybrittas and Portarlington and previously had businesses in Portlaoise and the New Inn.
He originally owned White’s grocery shop on the Main Street in Portlaoise before selling that and running a grocer’s at the New Inn near Emo, before building a premises in Ballybrittas in the late 1980s.
The Ballybrittas shop later incorporated the Post Office in the village and he also purchased a petrol station on the Station Road in Portarlington, developing it into a busy forecourt over the years.
A massive GAA supporter he was a regular at games throughout the county and he as good as had his own seat at the back of the stand in O’Moore Park.
He is survived by his wife Anne (nee Hyland), son John, daughter-in-law Ciara, grandson Eoin, brothers, Andy, Michael, Denis, sister Sr Kathleen, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends.
His funeral mass took place in Emo on Saturday morning with burial afterwards in the new cemetry.
