Cork native Kevin Donovan (33) from Midleton Co Cork is taking part in a race in every county in Ireland in aid of two charities – the Irish Deaf Society and the Cork Deaf Society.
Kevin who has already completed 24 counties since January of this year, is ticking Laois off the bucket list this evening by participating in the Rosenallis 5k Run.
Kevin has yet to participate in the Sligo, Mayo, Tipperary, Dublin, Kerry, and Cavan races before the year is out.
He said: “The most challenging race so far was probably Strabane Lifford Half Marathon, since it was a long way to travel from Cork and it was an interesting course.
“The main reason why I picked the charities is it my way of saying thank you to the deaf community.
“When I was young, I had specific speech disorder. I found it hard to say words, so I barely spoke till I was around 5.
“I was tried ended up in School for the deaf in Douglas, Cork, where they were able to help me with my speech and grammar.
“By the time secondary came around, I was able to get into mainstream education and got a degree in Chemistry at CIT. I was never deaf but I made great friends at my time at the school.”
