Tributes have been paid to former Heath GAA President Billy Hennessy who recently passed away.
The Heath suspended all club activity in the wake of the news of the loss of a man who won five senior titles with their club.
A statement on their Facebook page read: “The great Billy Hennessy died yesterday, surrounded by his family after a short illness he passed away last night in hospital, at the age of 91.
“His wife of 55 years Mary, brother Mick and sister Rita, children Theresa, Esther, Michael, Catherine, Henry, Joan, Dan, Yvonne, Thomas, Sarah, Billy and Rita were at his side.
“He is also survived by another loving sister Kit along with a large family of grandchildren, cousins and in laws.
“Billy was our club president and famous for many reasons out here on The Heath. He won an Intermediate title in 1953 before going on to win an unprecedented 5 senior titles between 1957 and 1962.
“Playing in goals he was known to be as hard as nails on the pitch but a soft spoken gentleman off it.
“A farming man he was widely respected in the community and was a devoted Catholic who loved going to mass where he would meet and greet old friends.
“A good man for the horses too he was in Cheltenham in 2008 for the first and only time after his good friend Tom Ryan and son Billy brought him across the water.
“He will be so greatly missed, and the sincere condolences of The Heath Gaa are with his family and friends.”
