As ever, it was another busy week in LaoisToday and once again we have really enjoyed bringing you all the important news stories.
From serious news, to local sport or something that sparks a conversation or debate, we like to think we can offer something to interest everyone.
There were so many stories over the past week, but here is just a selection of the items featured on our website in the past week.
News
- There was bad news on funding for the much anticipated Slieve Bloom Mountain Bike Trail which could now be in doubt.
- There was better news on high-speed broadband in the county, with news that it is being rolled out on schedule, with some already connected.
- The community in Portlaoise and beyond really rallied round the family of tragic Daryl Dargan who died while on a stag holiday in Portugal. His body will be flown home this weekend thanks to a Go Fund ME campaign.
- A rare 1915 medal was sold at auction this week, and exceeded its reserve price.
Sport
- The story of Padráig McMahon’s return to the Laois fold is a refreshing one. Many though his intercounty career was over a number of years back.
- There was joy this week for St Joseph’s in the Kelly Cup, thanks to a last minute goal.

- Judging from the massive reaction to our 22 unforgettable things about the night club at Pedigree Corner many of you have fond memories of the place. The sign may is still above the door and nights there certainly haven’t been forgotten.
- The Dubs will descend Portlaoise this weekend for the Leinster Final clash with Carlow on Saturday. Mark Doheny put together 20 helpful tips for the Dublin supporters coming to Portlaoise this weekend.
