There was widespread shock and sadness at the death of local businesswoman Wynne Brennan earlier this week.
Having been in business for over two decades at Treasures shop on Main Street in Portlaoise, she was well-known and popular person amongst the local traders and people of the town.
She enjoyed a chat and the cut and thrust of business and selling.
She was very popular with her customers, many of whom remarked this week that she was always in good humour.
Treasures was set up in Portlaoise 24 years ago by the late Ms Wynne and Louise Dunne.
“She will be truly missed by me,” Ms Dunne said this week.
Ms Brennan was predeceased by her late husband Seamus Brennan, who was well-known in Portlaoise from Brennan’s Printing Business at Towerhill in the town.
A native of Shanahoe, Ms Brennan moved to Portlaoise a number of decades ago.
A devoted mother to her daughter Rachel, the late Ms Brennan took great delight in her grandson, also Seamus, and greatly enjoyed spending time with him.
An avid golfer, she was a long-time member of The Heath Golf Club and was a regular player. She reduced her golfing time somewhat to allow more time to devote to grandparenting duties in recent years.
A guard of honour was provided at St Peter and Paul’s Church by both The Heath Golf Club and Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) on behalf of her partner Der.
Ms Winifred was predeceased by the late Seamus, and was a dearly loved mother to her daugther Rachel. An adoring grandmother to Seamus (Jnr), she is deeply regretted by her loving family.
She is survived by her partner Der, son-in-law Hugh, sisters Mai Conroy, Nora Cahill and Chris Cass. Brothers-in-law Gerry, Joe and Charlie. Sisters-in-law, Treasa and Vera. Nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
