The May Pole Festival was all the rage in Jamestown, Monasterevin and Emo in the 1950s – and this weekend in Ballybrittas they’re bringing it back to life with your typical lively gathering of music, dancing and craic.
Run by Trish and Alan O’Halloran in the Final Furlong pub in Ballybrittas, the May Pole Festival was officially opened in the village on Friday night by Tom Mulhall, Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council.
Cash Returns, a Johnny Cash tribute band, are the star attraction on Saturday night along with Graham Delaney and Friends who begin proceedings at 8pm.
The show gets underway early on Sunday with DJ Michael between 4 and 6pm while Geraldine and Kinfolk come on at 7pm and Stephen Smyth and his band finish it out, coming on at 10pm.
Our photographer was in Ballybrittas on Friday night for the official opening … and the fun was only starting.
