The death has occurred of well-known Laois businessman, Joe Malone.
For many years he ran the pub in Killeigh before selling the business to Matt Doyle.
The pub was a popular stop-off point for Laois people travelling to and from matches in Tullamore, being just over the border with Offaly.
He was a popular and respected member of the local community there.
He was also well-known through his car sale business.
Many will also remember his appearance on Winning Streak in the 1990s when he was joined by family and friends.
He passed to his eternal reward in the tender and devoted care of the staff of Esker Rí Nursing Home, Clara, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 23.
Joe will be sadly missed by Anne, their sons Séamus and Páraic and daughter Áine; daughter-in-law Patty; adoring grandsons Donagh, Séan & Niall; his loving brothers and sisters Richard (Athy), James (Ballylinan), Anne (O’Keeffe, Portlaoise), Bridie (Teehan, Ballaghmore), Mary (Ryan, Bray), and Patricia (Brennan, Templemore), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnephews, relatives, neighbours, and a large circle of friends.
Reposal took place at Moloney’s Funeral Home, Mountmellick on Thursday evening. Funeral took at St. Patrick’s Church, Killeigh on Friday afternoon following mass at 2.30 p.m.
Burial took place afterwards in Arles Cemetary, Co. Laois.
