As ever, it was another busy week in LaoisToday and once again we have really enjoyed bringing you all the important news stories.
From serious news, to local sport or something that sparks a conversation or debate, we like to think we can offer something to interest everyone.
There were so many stories over the past week, but here is just a selection of the items featured on our website in the past week.
News
- It was confirmed that President Michael D Higgins is to visit Abbeyleix soon. His visit on May 25 to see first hand the work that has been done their is well-deserved recognition for the local community.
- There was much sadness at the news that Mrs Peg Fleming had passed away. Her family, including TD Sean, have deep Fianna Fáil connections.
- Earlier in the week, Mountmellick girl Maeve Dunne was confirmed as the new Laois Rose. The live blog from LaoisToday on the event proved very popular.
Sport
- The painful loss by the Laois U21 footballers in an All-Ireland final was 10 years ago. Judging by the reaction to the piece, it’s a defeat that just won’t go away.
- Top Laois GAA officials were remaining tight-lipped on reports that coaches had been axed to cut costs. Coaches for both hurling and football were reportedly dispensed with.
- There was recognition for a former Portlaoise underage rugby star. The young Laois man has been making quite a name for himself and was crowned Connacht U19 player of the year.
We are Laois
- There was a huge turnout for the Ned Buggy Memorial Run. LaoisToday was there to capture the event.
- It’s fair to say that there was Rose fever in the county over the bank holiday weekend. The local Roses had great support from family and friends as our photographs show.
