Minister Charlie Flanagan has become only the second person ever to receive the Laois Association Dublin Achievement Award.
He was the guest speaker recently at a function hosted by the association.
Minister Flanagan spoke to the group for over an hour about a diverse range of subjects including the repercussions and fears over Brexit as well as the effect of Brexit on Northern Ireland and the current stalemate in Northern Ireland .
He speech also covered overseas aid, local politics and the colourful past of his father the late Oliver J.
A question and answers session followed and again the topics were diverse.
He answered questions on how we would cope with a united Ireland saying that it may happen at sometime but he as a politician was tied into the terms of the Good Friday agreement.That being any change in status of Northern Ireland can only come through majority consent.
It was a lively and memorable evening which culminated with a presentation to Minister Flanagan.
The Minister was touched by this award and thanked the association for the honour.
