Most areas in Laois would be proud if there was one girl from their locality in the Laois Rose selection night but the Killeshin community have really pushed the boat out by putting forward three.
This year’s selection night takes place in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel on Sunday, April 30, and as part of the run up, the Mall Pub in Killeshin organised a night of fun and games to pick a local to represent the area.
But with a number of interested contenders and willing local businesses to sponsor there will be three girls on stage at the end of the month bidding for the coveted title and a trip to Tralee next August.
Rachel Whelan will represent the Mall Pub, Aine Doran will represent MCM engineering and Emma Brady will represent Scats Bouncy Castles. A fourth girl – Alison Deegan – was also selected but has since decided against going for it.
The full list of contestants will be announced – along with their profiles – in the coming weeks.
The next event on the Laois Rose calendar is a get together next Friday, March 31, in the Roll n Bowl in Portlaoise – where there will be food and bowling followed by a visit to the bars in Portlaoise who are sponsoring some of the contestants.
