The people of Laois woke up covered in white fluffy stuff this morning.
The night before brought snow – and lots of it.
While it might be nice to look at, it had caused disruption in places.
Gardaí say the Windy Gap in Stradbally is now passable with care after two trucks became stuck and a car overturned earlier this morning but motorists are asked to avoid the area where possible.
Fallen trees have been cleared from the N77 between Abbeyleix and Durrow while there are still trees on the R433 between Abbeyleix and Ballacolla.
There are also reports of power cuts in Portlaoise and Abbeyleix as ESB crews are currently working to resolve the issues.
A status yellow snow and ice warning is due to remain in place until 10 o’clock this morning.
However, Met Eireann forecaster Joan Blackburn told RTE Radio One’s Morning Ireland that we are in for milder weather this weekend.
She said: “There are very wintry conditions this morning and the yellow warning remains in operation.
“There is also a rainfall warning for parts of the east coast.
“But it will be a lot more mild and settled for the weekend.
“This morning, there is further snow falling and lying in places so take care.”
So it really is a case of mind how you go out there today. If you are travelling to work, take your time and get there in one piece.
