An umbrella in Mountmellick which said “I love the rain” summed up the attitude in the town for the parade.
And the inclement weather failed to dampen spirits as the streets were packed with people to view the hardy souls who braved the elements.
Earlier the Cairde band and Joe Laffan entertained the crowd before the local gardai and St Peter’s Pipe Band got the parade underway.
Participants included the St Joseph’s Accordion Band, Mountmellick Youth Development Centre, Mountmellick Utd FC, Mountmellick GAA, Dance On Stage School, Kickboxing Laois, 1st Laois Mountmellick Scouts, The Rock GAA, Mountmellick Gymnastics Club and Mountmellick Baton Twirlers.
They were followed by vintage cars and tractors, along with commercial entries.
While the bands played in front of the review stand, the younger entertainment groups entertained the crowds, and no doubt kept themselves warm.
Earlier Mr Laffan praised the local committee which had come together in recent weeks to ensure the parade went ahead. Judging by the crowds in Mountmellick, despite the weather, it was worth their while.
