Over 60 groups and 260 students from Laois have taken part in this year’s Student Enterprise Awards with the final to take place in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel next Wednesday, March 8.
Seven schools from around the county have taken part in the event organised by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO). 35 groups have been shortlisted for the final and the winner will go forward to represent Laois in the national final in Croke Park in May.
As part of this programme, students learn what it is really like to set up and run their own business.
They use their skills to secure resources they need to make this happen, and with the help of their teachers learn how to make a hobby/talent turn into a viable business opportunity.

“The Local Enterprise Office acknowledges the contribution of the schools and teachers to the success of the programme and look forward to their continued participation in the future,” said a statement from Honor Deevy, Senior Enterprise Development Officer in Laois LEO.
The public are welcome and encouraged to attend the event to see the work of the students, and the event will be open to all from 11.45 am on the day.
