The funeral has taken place of Millie McEvoy, the Kildare woman who died tragically following a fire in her home in Naas earlier this week.
Mrs McEvoy was the wife of the well-known auctioneer Colm McEvoy who owns Ballinakill mart. There was a large presence from the Laois farming community at the funeral today in Naas.
Fr John Brickley – himself a Laois man – was the principal celebrant at the mass and he recalled a woman who will be remembered for her love, friendship, camaraderie, commitment and her charity. Fr Brickley is the parish priest in Kilcock having moved from Naas only last April.
Mrs McEvoy had 23 grandchildren and they were at the centre of her life. “She was a support to them in their times of disappointment and delighted in sharing and enjoying their achievements,” said Fr Brickley.
The large congregation heard that Mrs McEvoy was a woman of strong faith. “She had a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart. She nurtured her children, gently passing on her faith.”
Millie is survived by husband Colm, daughters Anne Marie, Olive, Jackie, Mary and Sinead and son Jimmy.
