Laois GAA have issued a statement distancing themselves from comments made by one of their top officials at Monday’s County Board meeting.
Kieran Leavy, the Assistant Treasurer of Laois GAA, claimed at Monday’s monthly meeting “there is a war coming” in relation to the battle with other sports for young players.
Leavy was speaking in relation to the loss of players in his native Portarlington to other sports, such as soccer, which he felt was having a negative effect on the Portarlington GAA club.
Leavy stated that the views were his own, and not of the Laois GAA executive but they have still taken the step of issuing a statement.
“Laois GAA and Laois County Executive are not against any other sports, or sporting organisations.
“Mr Leavy’s comments were his personal held beliefs and he was not speaking on behalf of Laois County Board.”
