Helen Gee’s business of making jam on her family farm near Abbeyleix is a real Laois success story and she is going to feature on Neven Maguire’s ‘Irish Food Trails’ tonight (Wednesday) on RTE.
Helen, who own G’s Gourmet Jams, shows the Cavan chef how she makes her raspberry jam on tonight’s programme. And as you’ll see from the clip, the two seemed to have great fun filming on location in Abbey Farm, where Helen has been making her jam for almost 30 years.
“We still cook in saucepans every single day of every single week – in small batches,” she explains.
In total she produces over 40 different ranges – in marmalades, jams, chutneys and relishes – and they are sold in Ireland, the USA, France, Germany and Luxembourg. Helen also explains in tonight’s episode how the food service industry is very important to her business.
“The food service has been very good to us,” she adds. “We supply a lot of the five star hotels and we also supply to Aer Lingus.”
Tonight’s show also features Neven visiting the Michelin-star Campagne restaurant in Kilkenny and Nicholas Mosse pottery in Kilkenny.
The show airs at 7.30pm on RTE1.
