Baby Bears, based in Bellingham in Portlaoise, is owned by Carol Phelan who opened for business in September 2018
It is a small sessional preschool service, offering the ECCE scheme and caters for small groups from ages two to six years in a homely environment.
“It is important to me to keep my groups small as I want the children to have the feeling of home,” says Carol. “From a mother’s point of view that was something that I looked for when we were finding a preschool for our own children to attend.”

Kilminchy Schoolhouse

Little Treasures
Little Treasures on the Borris Road in Portlaoise is owned by Elaine Gavin who has her Level 8 degree – the highest qualification in the childcare industry.
As well as providing the free ECCE year – with a 9am to 12noon and 12.30pm to 3.30pm options – there is also part-time hours where the playschool children can stay on for two extra hours for a cost of €5 per hour.
There is also an after-school service from 1.30pm to 6pm for primary school children. The first half hour is free with a charge of €5 an hour after. There is no minimum committment.

Buses collect from all local schools every day and drop them safely to the centre where a hot meal awaits them.

The Mushroom
Owned by Monica Delaney the Mushroom provides preschool and after school services, including the ECCE scheme.
Preschool is based on a Montessori curriculum with links into Aistear and Siolta to promote inclusivity for the children.

Stradbrook
Owned and run by Monica Delaney Stradbrook provides care for children form the age of 2 up to 12.
They provide full day care, preschool and after school services (including ECCE scheme) . They aim to promote diversity and inclusivity in our creche.
In the preschool they introduce Irish words and phrases for the children to encourage a love of Irish. They use Aistear and Siolta as the basis for our preschool curriculum.
They provide a pick up service from local schools to the creche, and each after school child is provided with a hot meal. When they get into the creche, homework is done and then the children are free to choose their own activities.
